How many children? Part 1

With 13 children living under one roof it often meant that someone was billeted at the home of Thomas's brother Frank. Frank and Ann had come to Canada a few years prior to Thomas and Maria and their house was just down the road from Frank & Ann's home. Francis and Ann (Fletcher) Pott had immigrated to Canada and settled in the District of Plankey Plain, Manitoba. Family records show that they came to Canada in 1887 but on the 1906 census it shows that Francis came over in 1884 followed by Ann in 1885. Frank and Ann had no children and were living on the following section 34-2-58-1 in Stuartburn. The census report also shows them with the following livestock 3 horses of all ages, 12 cows, 24 other horned or meat cattle of all ages, 22 hogs and pigs of all ages, no sheep.
On the 1911 census it again shows that Ann came to Canada in 1885. So I'm not exactly sure when they arrived but it is something we can research further.
In later years John the brother of Thomas and Frank would also join them here in Manitoba.
Ocean liner log books show the family of John and Emily (Wood) Pott listed as passengers departing Liverpool, England on Saturday March 23, 1907 to arrive in Portland Maine, USA on a ship by the name of S.S. Dominion. The ship arrived in Halifax on Tuesday April 2 and continued on to Portland from there. On page 23 of the manifest they are listed with their destination as Dominion City, Manitoba. It is believed that they would have traveled to Winnipeg and then on to Dominion City via CPR rail lines. CPR kept no records for passenger travel. John and Emily (Wood) Pott arrived in Winnipeg on Wednesday April 10, 1907. Upon their arrival in Dominion City a couple days later on Friday April 12, 1907, they were met by John’s brothers Frank and Thomas Pott.  John and Emily bought NW1/4 of Sec 34-2-5E in Oct. of 1907 and they farmed in the Plankey Plains & Woodmore area until their passing.
Below is a list of all 14 children that Thomas & Maria had and at the last reunion in 2012, of the 12 children that married, 9 had a descendant participate. There were 4 of the 6 remaining surviving grandchildren of  Thomas & Maria at the reunion.  The eldest being 92 years young.
